Cloud cost optimization consultant

It's done.

The bill, read beside the platforms the week still depends on. Spend with no owner is the subject. A percent saved is not a promise.

The bill as an operator sees it

A cloud cost optimization consultant starts from the invoice you trust and the list of platforms the on-call still has to keep up. If those two cannot be put on the same table, that is the start of the review. Finance often has a total. The people who ship often have a service. The work is the gap between them.

We do not open with a savings target. Targets that are set before anyone knows which spend is the product produce cuts that wake the on-call. The picture comes first. What you stop, shrink, or keep is a decision you make after you can see owners.

This page is the general cost engagement. If the invoice is specifically AWS, Azure, or both, the AWS and Azure cost review goes into those accounts. Both can be in one scope. They are written as different pages because the questions are different.

Waste, separated from the product

Some spend is leftover. A project environment nobody will admit is still on, a service tier bought for a launch that ended, a log store that grew because nobody set a limit, a commitment purchased for a shape of usage you no longer have. Those are candidates. They are not automatic deletions.

Some spend is the product. The database the service cannot live without, the egress you incur because customers are using the thing, the support plan someone already chose. That spend gets an owner and stays, unless you decide otherwise in writing.

We will not label spend as waste because it is large. Large and owned is a business fact. Large and unnamed is the finding.

  • The invoice, and the person who can explain the largest lines.
  • Platforms the on-call still carries, matched to those lines where they match.
  • Resources that survived the project that created them.
  • Commitments already on the bill, compared with the usage you can show.

An owner for what remains

Every line that stays needs a person who can say why it is on. That person is not a committee and not the consultant. It is someone who can change the resource or can decline a change. Shared cloud accounts with no owner are named as such. The fix is an owner, not a new dashboard.

Tagging, if you use it, is checked against reality. A tag that says production on a stack everyone treats as a sandbox is a finding. A missing tag is a finding only when it hides an owner. We do not spend the engagement decorating resources so a report looks complete.

We run the engagement end to end and work around your normal operations, but we'll need access to the right areas and the right people while we do.

What is not promised

No savings percent, no minimum dollars removed, and no resale of reserved capacity or savings plans. If a vendor offer is already on your invoice, we say whether the usage we can see matches it. We do not shop a new offer for you.

This is not a finance-only audit and not a reliability engagement. If the bill is fine and the service is not, use SRE consulting. If the path to production is the pain, use platform operations. Cost work stays tied to those systems so a cut does not become an incident.

The Recon Assessment, starting at $15,000 plus expenses, can put the bill, the platform, and the on-call in one four-day report. A narrower cost review is scoped in writing and its fee is not listed on this page.

Questions on this work

Do you promise a savings percent?

No. A cloud cost optimization consultant can show spend with no owner, resources still running after the project ended, and commitments that do not match use. What you stop is a decision you make after that picture exists.

Is this only a finance exercise?

No. The bill is read next to the platforms the on-call still depends on. Spend that is the product stays. Spend that nobody can name is the review.

Which clouds are in scope?

The accounts you already pay for. A separate AWS and Azure cost review walks those two platforms in more detail when that is the bill in front of us.
